Uniting for Peace
The Uniting Church is a peacemaking church. The Church's vision is for a world where there is no need for military arms and weapons.
Knowing about the consequences of nuclear radiation, Adnyamathanha people in South Australia are vigorously opposed to a nuclear waste dump on their land. Their work to seek justice for their people is the third building block of peace.
Already in 2016 there have been a number of extreme weather events devastating communities in Australia and around the world. Last year was declared the hottest year on record. Human induced climate change is a significant threat to human life, to future generations and to a just peace.
Globally we are facing a growing gap between the incredibly wealthy and the very poor. When poverty is combined with uneven power structures a fertile environment for injustice is created.
