Responding to widespread concern within the Uniting Church on issues relating to sexuality, the Sixth Assembly (1991) established the Sexuality Task Group. Its brief was to research these issues and bring a report to the Assembly in 1997. The aim of the report was to help the Unting Church to: "respond to changing patterns of human relationships and sexual activity in our society, with a view to promoting healing and wholeness in human relationships".
