Letter to the Minister for Immigration & Border Protection

The Assembly of the Uniting Church in Australia has written to the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection to seek intervention in the planned deportation of a Hazara man.

The Uniting Church is deeply concerned for the safety of the 65-year old Hazara man, who has not lived in Afghanistan since the 1980s. He has no family or social links to Kabul, with his family having fled to Quetta, Pakistan, several decades ago. When his case was assessed, it was found that it would be unsafe to repatriate the man to his home province of Uruzgan.

We believe that those safety concerns would and should apply to his forced repatriation to Kabul.
