The Church today released a new policy on Asylum Seekers and Refugees, raising concerns about the inflammatory and discriminatory language used against them by the Government.
A world wide refugee population of 23 million is not going to disappear because Australia has adopted the so called Pacific solution.
Responding to widespread concern within the Uniting Church on issues relating to sexuality, the Sixth Assembly (1991) established the Sexuality Task Group. Its brief was to research these issues and bring a report to the Assembly in 1997. The aim of the report was to help the Unting Church to: "respond to changing patterns of human relationships and sexual activity in our society, with a view to promoting healing and wholeness in human relationships".
The Prime Minister, Mr. Malcolm Fraser, has been asked to postpone any Government decision on the mining and export of Australian Uranium.
