Refugee Week 2016

Searching for Freedom is a reminder of what people are doing when they flee situations of persecution and grave danger.

The President of the Uniting Church in Australia Stuart McMillan has joined faith leaders across the country in appealing for the release of children from immigration detention.

In an open letter to federal members of parliament published in today’s Sydney Morning Herald, Mr McMillan and other church leaders are urging MPs to vote for legislation that would allow the release of all children in onshore immigration detention centres.

Manifesto on change for asylum seekers

Uniting Justice National Director Rev. Elenie Poulos and Uniting Church in Australia President Stuart McMillan were two of 230 signatories on a citizens manifesto calling for changes to Australia's asylum seeker policy. The statement seeks policies based on humanitarian principles, calls for an end to locking away innocent men women and children, and envisions a country that sees asylum seekers as an opportunity not a problem.
